From Chiang Mai International airport, you can find many taxi around the taxi kiosk at the airport. The taxi fare from the airport to most of Chiang Mai proper should cost no more than 250 THB. Another good alternative is many rideshare app such as Grab, inDrive, or Maxim.
To get around Chiang Mai, one may also use many rideshare apps. However, those intrepid adventurers can also challenge themselves into hailing one of these sprawling local favourite Red Jeepney, also known as "songthaew" or in local dialects as "roddaeng", aka "the red car"
These covered pick-up trucks have two long bench seats in the back (songthaew means "two rows" in Thai). They don't always follow a specific route, instead roaming the streets picking up passengers along the way. Once hailed, a passenger can inform the driver their destination and then both parties will begin a quick negotiation to determine the fare. Once an agreeable fare is reached, the passenger then can enjoy a journey through Chiang Mai as the driver skillfully navigate the optimal route through the city dropping off all passengers to their destination, picking up new ones along the way.
If this sounds intimidating to you, do not worry. We have also prepared a simplified version of the experience in the form of complimentary shuttle service for all participants. Shuttle buses will depart from the following locations for free of charge for all participants.
