Conference Topics

  • Astronomy Curriculum

Astronomy has a unique role as an interdisciplinary science that brings together many different basic concepts of science and discusses topics that are highly relevant to the audience. However, the integration to the national curriculum varies widely among different countries. Which level and which roles should astronomy be in the national science curriculum? How to best implement them? What are some of the challenges and concerns faced in implementing astronomy as part of the curriculum?

  • Classroom Activities

Classroom is a space in which new topics and ideas are being formulated within a student’s perception. Explore new ways and innovations in which this transfer of knowledge can be made more efficiently and in more engaging ways. Particularly, with the conference themed centered around Asia, share some of the classroom activities uniquely addressed to the challenges faced in the classrooms within the region.

  • Informal Astronomy Education

Education is a lifelong process and is not confined within school grounds or school hours.. Many aspects of education take place outside the context of schools completely. Informal astronomy education such as planetariums, science museums, self-study, social media, etc. also plays a crucial role in shaping the understanding of astronomy in a K-12 audience.

  • Accessibility, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Astronomy Education

As we expand more to better engage with our audiences, we must also pay attention to those who might get left behind. Addressing a unique group of individuals sometimes requires unique solutions to solve unique challenges. Share some of the ways in which we can overcome physical, mental, societal, religious, cultural, or economic challenges in making sure no one is left behind.

  • Extracurricular Astronomy Activities

Education is ongoing and is not necessarily confined within the curriculum. However, this is often overlooked in favor of a highly academic-oriented mindset and high expectations from parents, particularly in this region. Discuss ways in which we can emphasize other aspects of education and how students can spend time finding their own passion and interest outside of curriculum, such as club activities, project-based learning, student research, etc.
